MVP
Our first project ever

SVP Portal

Our first project. We built a private membership app where members could find information, get news, see an event calendar and more. Integrated with HubSpot and Eventbrite.

The problem

A nonprofit organization was managing member communications through email blasts, a static website, and spreadsheets. Members had no central place to find information, register for events, or connect with each other. Staff spent hours on manual data entry between HubSpot, Eventbrite, and their website.

What we built

A private membership portal with member directory, news feed, event calendar with registration, volunteer coordination, and document library. Integrated with HubSpot for CRM and Eventbrite for event management, syncing data bidirectionally.

This was our first project. It took 30 days, taught us everything about our process, and proved that what we were building actually worked.

Features
What it does
Member portal
Private dashboard with news feed, event calendar, and document library.
HubSpot integration
Bidirectional sync so member data flows between the portal and CRM.
Eventbrite integration
Event registrations sync automatically. No manual data entry.
Member directory
Searchable directory with profiles, roles, and contact information.
Volunteer coordination
Sign-up sheets and scheduling for community service activities.
Process
How we built it
1
Discovered the organization's pain points
Shadowed staff for a week to understand the manual workflows, duplicate data entry, and communication gaps.
2
Designed the member experience
Dashboard-first approach: log in and immediately see what's new, what's coming up, and what needs your attention.
3
Built the core platform
Member profiles, news feed, event calendar, and document library. Clean, simple, purpose-built.
4
Integrated HubSpot and Eventbrite
Bidirectional sync so event registrations flow to HubSpot and member data flows to Eventbrite.
5
Launched and iterated with member feedback
Released to 200+ members. Collected feedback weekly and shipped improvements every Friday.
Reflections
What we took away from this project.
What went wrong
We over-designed the initial version. Members wanted simple and fast, not feature-rich. We removed half the features after the first month.
What went right
The HubSpot integration saved the staff 10+ hours per week in manual data entry. That alone justified the entire project.
What we learned
First projects teach you more than any amount of planning. The 30-day timeline forced us to make decisions quickly and ship imperfect work that we could improve.
